often-when-you-think-of-something

“Often when you think you’re at the end of something, you’re at the beginning of something else.”

When an old tree in the forest falls, it dies. It’s death brings a new beginning.

Space in the canopy lets in light where the tree once stood.

Smaller trees and plants have access to more light giving them a chance to grow and fill the vacant slot.

Animals and insects will nest and feed off the dead tree.

Fungus will grow on the tree as it decays returning vital nutrients to the forest floor.

All we see is the fallen tree.

We feel sad for what once was.

We don’t appreciate it’s death brings new life rushing to take up the vacant space.

We tend to see the negative side when something ends.

We might be angry or upset that we’ve been fired or lost contact with an old friend.

We only see loss if we get ripped off or lose a £20 note.

It makes us angry, frustrated and even hurt.

We might spend years blaming our ex partner for the divorce.

Gorging on angry feelings and hating everyone of the same gender.

Don’t you think it’s pretty sad when you go on a date and your guest spends the evening banging on about the ex and how all (insert gender) are bastards or bitches or both.

Why don’t we take the time to think that whatever just ended was the chance for a fresh start.

Even if the ending was sharp and painful, even if you were let down gently, the result is still the same.

Thinking about a relationship that just ended.

Perhaps you had grown out of each other or learned whatever lesson s/he was meant to teach you. It still hurts, I know.

I have lost jobs, friends, family, homes.

There have been times when I haven’t recognised why the thing happened. I’ve just slammed the phone down or walked away.

Talking things out and listening to someone independent, – of the situation – can open your mind. Maybe there was nothing you could’ve done about it.

Think back to when something ended for you.

Look at it from a different angle. Was it meant to happen, was it designed to help you move on, learn and grow?

It’s only when we take time to reflect that we see the new light shining down, encouraging us to grow into the canopy way above our heads.
